I would suggest you trace the light path from bulb to lens to
identify the possible location of the problem.
One possibility is a defect in one of the two elements which 
takes the light from the bulb and turns it though 90 degrees
using lenses and a mirror. One of these condensing lenses 
could be cracked, or as once happened to me the mirror
could be damaged. My friendly local camera repair man
replaced the broken mirror, and then cracked one of the
lenses when reassembling the unit, so I have experience now
of replacing both parts.
If it is the polarisers you can get at them by taking off the rear
housing (unscrew big nut at back), and then if I recall 
correctly you unscrew the slide changing mechanism to
access the polarisers. new ones can be bought from Reel3D.
