In a message dated 99-04-05 14:25:13 EDT, you write, in part:

P.S. - There is no "adjustment" when mounting the chips on a reel,
it's a system based upon "precision" in all aspects of it so
using the process is a matter of going through the motions,
no thinking or judgement needed (no window adjustments, etc).

Hmm, that would explain the badly presented reels I've seen. This bit about
the punch, though...(I'm one of those who can never accept that something
can't be done...).
It would seem possible to print the (reduced) dupes onto the copy material in
such a manner as to allow the use of the diecutter (punch) but this would
increase the difficulties of accurately registering the images onto the copy
film.
In my copy of Ferwerda's "The World of 3-D" I see listed four consumer market
camera models to make VM-type pictures which would imply at least two types
of diecutters. One style cutter is shown but I have never had occasion to
personally examine any of them.
I cannot believe that the vast number and variety of VM reels manufactured
(and especially since the system was developed in the late 1930's, when the
commercial use of miniature cameras was almost nil) could have been produced
on cameras such as these. Sawyers must have had a system to mass produce
these using the technology available (not just available, but in common
commercial usage) at that time. The challange is to re-invent this wheel for
the limited enthusiast market today....
To quote my motorcycling friends, "Never Say Die"....

ps. this was originally written as an off-list note to Mike K but after
re-reading I think I'll copy it to the P3d....
