Unfinished wood is acidic and will promote decay of your paper mounts over
time. Wood sealed with varnish or paint should air for at least a month to
get rid of volatiles before storing important organic materials inside.
Polypropylene and polyethylene are inert plastics that would be safe for
storage, although polypropylene may have release agent residues that would
not be safe for storage. Enamel metal cabinets or unbuffered acid-free
cardboard boxes (typically labeled as archival) would be most appropriate if
you are looking for long-term, museum quality storage.
