Absolutey, if it is finished correctly.  As Susan B.F. Wageman pointed out, 
some wood finishes may release gasses that could damage the images.

Negafile makes a selection of beautifally finished wooden chests and drawers 
for safely storing photographic images of many sizes.  I know that they are 
offered in mahogany, walnut & cherry finishes, but I do not know what brand 
or formulation of finishes they use.

Neumade makes a diverse selection of enameled steel cabinets.
