Slight bit of ancedotal evidence...

I once took a tour into a gold mine which lasted about an
hour. On the way back out via the mine train, we approached the
portal. Since it was a straight shot to the outside, the bright
afternoon daylight first appeared WAYYY off in the distance, and
gradually got bigger as we neared it. 

It was incredibly, piercingly blue. Probably as a result of 
being in the mine lit by incandescent bulbs, plus the dark rock,
plus being at 9,000' altitude.

Almost everyone on the tour remarked on the effect...
