Dear Moderator
I am a long-time subscriber to (and avid fan of) this list and also a keen
collector of historic stereocards, specialising in the Boer War. I am in the
process of completing a CD-ROM after about four years of work which I am
hopeful will be the definitive work on stereocards in the Boer War of
1899-1902, drawing on the largest know collections in the world. The CD
contains close to 1000 (at this stage) stereocard images of the Boer War
(both in original format and also converted to anaglyph format for easy
viewing on screen); the complete text of the book written by the Underwood &
Underwood photographer who covered the Boer War; the full text of "The Photo
Miniature" edition of August 1899 which is devoted completely to
stereoscopic photography; detailed descriptions of how stereocards were
manufactured at the time based on contemporary accounts: a discussion of all
the major stereocard companies in many parts of the world involved in card
manufacture at the time of the Boer War; as well as a look at other media
which portrayed the Boer War, including magic lantern slides and short
movies of the Boer War taken in 1901 by Thomas Edison's company (and passed
off as actuality footage).
I would like to know whether it would be permitted to post a notice
announcing this CD-ROM to list members and invite them to contact me if they
would like a free "demo" CD-ROM mailed out to them which will allow them to
judge the material and then decide whether they would be interested in
ordering a copy of the actual CD-ROM which is due for release in a few
months time.
If I would be permitted to post such a notice, please let me know and I can
then draft the text to accurately reflect the full content of the CD-ROM.
Many thanks
