P3D Twinned 35 P&S Cameras

I have recreational access to many P&S 35mm cameras. I would like to try
a pair of variable zoom cameras like...say Nikon Zoom 70's or Minolta
140 Zooms in stereo. My thought was that if I used the lens option to
either extreme, either wide angle- or max zoom...that the focal length
of identical cameras should match up well at either extreme. Is this a
logical conclusion? I plan to depress each shutter button by hand ( and
also account for independent auto focus of each camera....so I must
shoot carefully) and of course mount both cameras on a slide bar. Can
anyone recommend a pair of P&S cameras that I should try first? ( I have
a twin Olympus XA2 rig from J Alpers so I'm familiar with the occasional
exposure mismatches) Any other cameras you recommend twinning? Thanks.
