P3D View-Master Personal Stereo Reel Mounts

Sad news on the View-Master front. While negotiating a deal with the VM
design department on a clothing order (more on this later), I have
confirmed with two different VM employees that Fisher-Price will not
longer be making Personal reel mounts.

The production machinery has been giving them problems for some time,
and it was decided that when the next major failure occurs they will not
fix it. The sales staff has notified their regular buyers that they need
to put their final order in. Orders will be filled on a first come basis
(check received) as long as stock is available. It might be one month or
it might be four, but they will be ending production this year.

An adage that I wish I had followed more often states "If you find a
product that you like, buy a lifetime supply of it because the next time
that you need it, it will have been discontinued". My feeling is that
once the regular suppliers are out of stock, the prices of the reels
will rise quickly (maybe two or three times their current retail price,
when you can find them). Only those who have a reserve of reel mounts
will be able to continue shooting. For those who like shooting
View-Master, I do not think you will not have another opportunity to
purchase new reel mounts at this low price again.

If enough people are interested, I would like to put together a order of
reels. The minimum order from VM is 1002 reels (167 six-reel packets) at
$1.10 per reel plus postage. 20 packs of mounts (120 reels) would be
about $140. If interested, please respond to me off list.
