Actually, there is the scent of roses in the air...  The resolution
of even consumer oriented CDDs is almost at that of film.  More
expensive devices far exceed the resolution of film.

Current "real" problems with the digital approach are colour
rendition and contrast control.

Multi-megapixel devices are only "production costs" away.

The "other" problem will be getting printers which are "good enough."

These days change does not take long.
