P3D Re: First time posting / Verascope question

Thanks Paul Talbot for the glowing recommendation and Paul Bigelow,
welcome to photo-3d!

Paul Bigelow asks about Verascope F40 viewers and he mentions 3
viewers he is aware of:

> 1) Plastic model with focus knob on side
> 2) Plastic model with focus knob on top
> 3) Transposing viewer

I am aware of viewers #1 and #3 (have not seen this one but I know it
exists) but not sure what #2 is. Have in mind that Jules Richard was
a famous French maker of stereo equipment since the early 1900s (maybe
earlier?) The Verascope stereo camera has been in proproduction long
before the 35 mm film became available. The F40 (also known as
Busch Verascope because it was imported to the USA by Busch) is the
only 35 mm stereo camera I know of, made by Jules Richard. So it is
quite possible that #2 is made for a different stereo format.

Viewer #1 comes in two variations. The more common is gray one has
double airspaced lenses. This design is not very good optically.
An earlier Busch Verascope viewer is black, the interocular at
the top is scibed in mm and has large (25 mm) achromatic lenses.
This is an excellent viewer, only it is very rare. I have only had
two of these and sold one via sell-3d.

As Paul Talbot mentioned, I specialize in stereo slide viewers.
I will modify any red button viewer (also Kodaslide II) for 7
sprocket viewing. (Actually, for the Realist red button viewer
I can go further, to 8p opening). I have a book available with
everything you need to know about the Realist red button viewer
(which is also my favorite) and instructions on how to modify it,
etc.

Right now I am very busy getting ready for the NSA convention
in July... If you make it to NSA make sure you attend my 3 (!)
workshops on: 1) Stereo slide viewers, 2) Manual Stereo Cameras,
3) Stereo Slide Mounting (w/Jon Golden) or stop by my table at
the trade show, In the Viewer workshop I will have a variety
of viewers for display, including modified red button and KII,
Hugo deWijs and more!

When I come back I plan to work on a web site to list my viewer
products and services.

Best regards,

George Themelis
