P3D Re: Time exposure Nimslo shots?
From
stereotype@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
there are three kinds of auxiliary lenses available for the Nimslo:
"Scenics" are little squares of -1/3 diopter glass that go over the
outer lens pair of the Nimslo. $16 a pair postpaid in the U.S. last
time I checked. They bring focus to infinity and make a big difference
in dim light or for time exposures at night.
"Angle" lenses are closeups available in portrait strength or "macro"
strength. Each rectangle fits over an adjacent Nimslo lens pair.
Your choice, $16 each postpaid last time I checked. For portraits I
just reach out and touch my subject's nose to measure the distance.
Fabulous results!
All are hand-cut from larger lenses and have their edges covered with
black paint to minimize flare. The -1/3 diopter large lenses are custom
made before being cut. The others come from ordinary closeup lenses.
You're on your own for attaching them. I use Velcro--put the fuzzy
stuff around the Nimslo lenses and at several places on the camera
body to store unused lenses (they tend to collect a lot of fingerprints,
but that hasn't hurt any my shots!), and the "hook" part on the lenses
themselves. I recommend putting more of the "hook" part on the lenses
rather than less--lost a "Scenic" this way (they _are_ tiny!).
Craig Daniels is a cool guy and has a lot of other stereo stuff on his
site--no connection--I'm just a satisfied customer!
