Which is a big issue, I think. More difficult than getting 3-D hobbyists
to explore artistic approaches is getting traditional artists to explore
3-D media. I think if we want to propagate this fascination of ours, we
need to target visual artists in general, not just photo-hobbyists (who
specifically are encouraged to ignore stereo cues and see flat
composition, as the flat camera does). How many sculptors, who are
endlessly complaining that their work is poorly represented in flat
photography, have ever seriously explored making a stereo portfolio of
their work? How many architects have created multiple design "models" by
generating phantograms? How many stage designers/directors have used
stereo projection? (More than you may guess!) How many painters have made
stereo paintings: cross-viewed pairs or anaglyphs or Chromadepth
abstractions? Not enough yet!

I try to remember money is a form of transportation, not a destination in
itself. Or as someone said "Money can't buy happiness, it just takes you
to places where you can hunt for happiness."

The real objectives are: Stimulating and enriching experiences.
Camaraderie. Discovery of the world's underlying order. Self-expression.
Experiencing life through others' eyes. When you can achieve those things
without the sticky tricky tyranny of the middle-man Money, so much the
better!

My philosophy is that my ideas, like children, are not my own - I'm just
borrowing them from the universe. For the pleasure of giving them life,
seeing them come to maturity and, most importantly, letting them out in
the world to be seen and expanded. Folks who hoard their intellectual
property long after they add to it are like parents who never let their
kids cut the apron strings. Their work's greatest potential never
happens. The point isn't to have "new" ideas to take credit for (Seems
most of my "new" ideas on P3D turn out to have been presented by Gabriel
long ago, upon archival excavation!), or to stick a prifit straw in them
and live like a slurping lump.

The point is to give ideas new shape and new life. If I can't bring an
idea to fruit now, I'll do it as soon as possible. If not later, then
I'll see if someone else can or will. That pesky idea has its own life,
which is bigger than mine, and longer!

Blaspheming the capitalist gods and corrupting the newbies,
Bruce
