Capitalist economics depends on the continuous introduction of new
products into the marketplace and the creation of demand for them. The
emergence of 3D movies and amateur 3D photography in the 1950s was
a modestly successful example. 

I have no doubt that we will eventually see a personal 3D video viewer
available to the mass market at an affordable price. Its acceptability
will be due as much to the cleverness of its marketers as the genius of
its engineers.
