I just had a thought (ow!).

If you want to test to see if the server is running, here's how
you can do it Point your browser to

http://calcite.rocky.edu/octa/sub.html

That's the list management page for my list overland-trails
(which eventually will be applied to the photo-3d group as well -
I was going to try to do it before I moved south for the summer,
but it was a student design project and I didn't have time to
modify it).  At any rate, fill in your e-mail address, and
do an ILLEGAL operation (like try to change delivery modes). 
IF the server is running, it will e-mail you back an error
message immediately (say, within 5 minutes). If you don't get
such a message, the server is probably down (or the net is out
on our end).

This will let you see if things are working without sending actual
"Anybody Here" type messages to all 1,000 subscribers.
