It is '50s (the apostrophe goes first because it is an abbreviation of
"1950s". When I was doing some freelance typesetting 15 or 20 years ago the
shop owner used the style book of the Chicago Tribune, if memory serves,
and he was most insistent that there was NO apostrophe before the "s". I've
used that as my guide ever since.
