Yes, there are other off-beat viewing devices. I once compared all known
printings of The Lord of the Rings, page-by-page by using a device in which
one copy of the text was placed on the left, and another on the right.
Changes would cause retinal rivalry usually. Sometimes a slightly line would
appear to rise from the surface or sink beneath it, instantaneously
allerting the viewer to changes. Much faster than than hand-collating, and
faster even than the blinky-blinky machines.
