Ooh, it's been a long time. That's how it used to work in Mosaic.....
Perhaps when you were choosing the aplication you need to put the filetype
as image/x-jps.
Concerning my whinge about Netscape Brian Reynolds wrote:-

What IE *appears* to be doing (well, I don't have access to the source
code do I?) is getting the filetype from the server where possible. If
it's not forthcoming, as with a JPS in many cases, it looks for the
headers.
Having been spoilt by graphics programs that do this I get irritated by
any that don't. It's one of my pet peeves with Paint Shop Pro for
example.
And now, back to our regular program concerning the debate between '50s
and 50's. ;-)
