I've shot fireworks twice with my 8 foot
bar and a pair of Ricohflex TLRs (medium format).
The first year I was an estimated 750 feet
from the bursts (speed of sound est). The
second year I was an estimated 600' away
and more patient (waiting for big bursts)
and got some awesome photos.
I did lose several good shots due to
the burst being cropped off at the top.
So for this year I've expanded my bar to
be 10 feet long and will try to shoot from
a bit further back (and maybe aim the
cameras higher :)
The first year I shot Velvia at f5.6
and f8. The second year I shot Ektachrome
EPY (64 speed tungsten balanced film)
at f8. This year I'm using EPY again but
will stop down half way between f8 and f11
to get a bit more of a saturated look.
There are photos of my 8' bar on my
web page. Photos of my 10 footer will
be up in a month or so.
