P3D Exhibits
I just returned from a field trip with high school students to the
Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. While there, I went into
the museum store and found a book on rocks & minerals and a book on
the human body that were done with 3-D pictures. What they do is
have a pair of pictures and then you use some kind of mirror in
between the two so you look at them and see the imagers in 3D. There
are also books available on insects, microlife, plants and reptiles.
Those I did not see. And, since everything was plastic-wrapped, I
could not even look at the pictures in the book to see if they were
worth the $16.95 per book.
The museum also has a display on images and a display onUniversal
Studios. In the latter, they have a screen running about Spider Man
but it looks funny until you view it through the lens pair that sits
there and then you see the whole thing in 3D. There are also some
older pairs of pictures that you use the old fashioned viewer to look
at on see the images in 3D. I thought it kind of interesting to see
all this stuff in 3D!!
They also have a virtual reality roller-coaster ride where I found
the image too small to really get into the ride although the seat was
shaking. I told the girl they should have done that in 3D also and
really had a ride then.
