P3D Contradictions & clarifications (NSA conventions)
>I thought the fundamental reason to hold Conventions was to gather
>together and meet, discuss - to come together.
>How did the darned Marketplace take over, AGAIN?!
I believe the Marketplace was there first. Consider that NSA started
as a collectors' association. Collectors get together and buy/sell/
trade stereo views. That was the spirit and the first conventions were
trade shows, I believe (old-timers, please correct me if I am wrong).
But, of course, things evolved and they continue to do so. From the
few postings on this subject it is clear that different people go
the NSA conventions for different reasons.
Now for the clarifications that Dalia asked, whoever had the idea
of starting the workshops had a good idea and it should be supported
more in the future. Workshops become more important as the trade
show becomes less important. Also, when I said that more and more
companies and products that you can buy on-line or through mail order
are represented in the trade show vs. enthusiasts carrying their own
"garage sale", this is an observation on how things have changed in the
course of the years. I mean relative ratios. Dalia used to be Dalia.
Now she is "three dee stereo dot com". More companies, less
individuals. That's the trend. Good or bad? Depends on your view
point. But the chances to find bargains from individuals are getting
less and less now that we can all sell stuff in our pajamas with a
computer.
