An index print ( aka thumbnail print) is a contact sheet of sorts
reduced in size to match the size of a single print from the roll.
Twinned cameras will provide 2 rolls of film...and 2 index prints. left
and right. Using a Viewmagic, you can preview the entire roll at a
glance. The index print is merely a reduced size of the origional so the
previewing is very accurate to predict which prints will look the best.
( I was not refering to slides but lets use this analogy)
Let's say a viewmaster size slide was the index for a medium/large
format transparency. And let's say the pairs were spaced properly on a
contact transparency and we used a SAM style devise to view all pairs at
a glance. Aside from some window adjustments, we would be able to
determine the best slides at a quick glance. An index print or slide
would simply be a reduced version of the origional. So we are not
comparing prints and slides.....simply previewing contact sheets.
Dr.T....I'm not sure I understand what you mean by method of viewing
determines successful results.
