Theory and reality are generally much different animals, especially with 3D!
Just saw the incredible IMAX 3D films "Trex" and "Encounters". Generally,
infinity was at the screen! Separation for near points had to be 4 to 6 feet
or more on screen... was it a "violation" of good projection rules? You bet~
Did it work? Spectacularly! They completely eliminated any possibility of
divergence, and people definitely like the in your face effects. (Seems they
were fairly careful to maintain mostly the less objectionable bottom
violations as opposed to side violations.) Also, the LCD shutters eliminates
ghosting! I saw none... and the internal stereo sound is a great plus~
After seeing them, it seems sort of kindergartenish to be working with still
35mm ;)
