P3D The weight of 3D

You know Jim, it is a fact that the Realist feels heavier that it really is.
I pulled this from an older posting (you can tell it's old stuff from the

Interesting observations:
- Realist, Belpl., Revere, Wollensak, even Kodak all weigh about the same.
- If you want a lighter '50s stereo camera go with a Stereo Graphic or
something (that was Cliff's camera, remember?)
- The medium format Sputnik is as heavy as '50s stereo cameras.
- The marco Realist is lighter than the regular Realist.
- Super Duplex 120 is one light camera!
- If you really want a light camera and you count this as a stereo camera
go with a Nimslo!
- Cases of stereo cameras can be heavy!
- A good mechanical camera from the '70s (like the Minolta STR101) is
HEAVY!!! (considerably heavier that any '50s stereo camera.
- Use of plastic has reduced camera weight (see Minolta X-700), making
modern cameras as heavy as 50s stereo cameras.
- My lightweight Minolta twin SLR rig, using very light X-700 bodies,
no winders or motor drives, light 45/2 lenses and a light bar, still
weighs more than *two* stereo cameras of the '50s.
- RBT S1 weighs more than a '50s stereo camera but about the same as a
'70s mechanical camera.
- A good on-camera flash can be heavy!
- Those darn alkaline batteries do make your red button heavy.
No wonder my camera bag is all ripped off carrying my twin Minolta rig,
Realist, Belplasca, flash, lightmeter, even tripod!
As I have stated in the past, I do not want to compromise and take with
me a lighter but (in my mind) inferior stereo camera. If I cannot take
my trusted Realist then I do not want to go anywhere, period.
