Linda Nygren wrote about talking to the Kodak labs about stereo mounting
and wondered about which of two labs would get film sent in for processing.
My experience here in the Boston area is this: in the old days, i.e.
a few years ago. Kodachrome from most Boston stores was sent to
Fair Lawn, NJ, and sometimes came back the next day. (2x2 processing).
Then at some point, I noticed that my slide mounts were stamped "MN"
and the slide numbers weren't inked. And I got back a roll of unmounted
slides just wound up in a tube without the usual paper interleaving.
So I started calling Kodak and found out that Kodachrome from my local
store was being sent to the Lerner lab in Minneapolis as part of
the Kodalux Plus service. I then called a number of camera stores and
processing labs in the area ans was told that Kodak was essentially
forcing all these places to use Kodalux Plus, and that all their
Kodachrome was being sent to Minneapolis. Since I had a couple of
bad experiences with the Lerner lab by that time, I stopped taking
any Kodachrome to local labs, and started using mailers to send it to
Fair Lawn.
