Eric,
You are overlooking the issue here. It is important whether there is
"crazing" on the lenses or not because a potential Custom buyer won't know
to look for this defect if he/she isn't aware of it . Whether the Custom
lenses are better than Ilex Paragons or Ektars is another discussion
altogether.
Now, as to the technical aspects of this "crazing," I don't know whether it
is fungus, fungi or mice. What I do know is that it does impact
performance because I have seen it and so have some of my customers.
That's why I suggested that an article on this very topic might be
appropriate for INSIDE 3D Magazine. How about you doing one? I could
provie the crazed lenses and you could do the inspections and write about
the results? Yes?
Meanwhile, any person considering purchasing a Custom, please examine the
lenses carefully.

And by the way, even collector would be nuts to buy a Custom with the lens
