Dalia relays "wisdom" from ZAK and says:
>If the camera has the "crazing" (in the coating) it means that under
>certain >conditions, the
>pictures will not look as good as if the "crazing" didn't exist.
I'm doubtful of the accuracy of this information. Coatings only effect
contrast and you have to have mega deterioration to multiple surfaces
before you notice any effect in the chromes.
IF the "crazing" Zak is speaking of is fungus etching the glass itself,
then that is a different matter and certainly can visibly effect lens
performance.
Perhaps the larger issue is whether the lenses on the Custom are in fact
"better" than other tessar-type 2.8s (such as David White lenses, "Germany"
lenses, "German" lenses, "Ektar" lenses). From the examples I have seen
from each of these cameras, there is no reason to believe that this is
anything more than myth...
If you are a collector, then lens performance is not the issue. If you are
a shooter, a good "Ektar" or "Germany" 2.8 will be far cheaper and perform
as well or better. There are also Wollensak fans who will tell you to head
that way...
