Speaking of Flipsigns, a young lady from Flipsigns came into our store
about a week ago and noticed our stereo viewers and cameras and we got
into a long talk. She was on her way to a trade fair in Los Angeles and
wanted to take some pictures of our stereo equipment to add to her
presentation. She said that with their software anyone will be able to
create lenticular 3D and Flippy images on their computers. She said that
the program breaks the images into the narrow strips and then lenticular
material is applied. I mentioned that there is always a problem with
supplies of lenticular material and she said that they were the largest
supplier of same. I told her that I had 3 older black and white flippys
from the fifties at home. One of a hula girl shaking it, one of a nude
girl shaking it, and my favorite of a baby and a cat with the cat
drinking milk and wagging it's tail and the baby crying. She asked me to
bring them in so that she could see them. I did. She came back a few
days later and talked me into selling the hula girl. I can't give up the
others. She showed me a flippy from a wedding. It only flipped between 2
pictures. The couple kissing and the couple eating cake. One BIG
problem. The ribbing on the image ran vertically so that there was
ghosting between the 2 images. Very difficult to look at. Normally the
ribbing runs horizontally on a flippy, so that the image is tilted top
to bottom to flip. Her image worked OK if I closed one eye. But to me a
good flippy needs continuous motion and not just 2 images. I was
intrigued with the idea of producing lenticulars at home. I know the
alignment of the lenses is critical to a good image.
