If freezing slows down degradation then why dosen't extend the
expiration date?

Because it assumes storage at room temperature.
OK Bob, here is a simple question for you: If Kodak announces today
that it will discontinue Kodachrome sales by the end of 1999 while it
will continue processing it for years to come, wouldn't you stock
your freezer with Kodachrome? (actually, I think you will buy a
dedicated freezer just to store Kodachrome!)
