Great Boris! Once again "great minds think alike" :-) I emailed to
Mary Ann and John Dennis about a regular column based on this idea:
The story behind an image (or a series of images). The anatomy of
a shot, so to speak.

Each article will go like this:

- What was the inspiration, idea, visual image, or assignment?
- Steps taken to make this a reality...
- Equipment used, techniques...
- Problems that had to be overcome...
- Some failures along the way and what was learned by them...
- Final image(s)

The first subject that came into my mind was the "Shadows"
assignment in Detroit. Remember I was asking about this?
I said "shadows are two-dimensional, how to you get a good stereo
pair?" Several people responded with ideas, like shadows falling
in three-dimensional objects. As a result of this assignment
I came up with some interesting ideas like my shadow in the steps,
mounted reversed, and also the pictures where I shifted the flash
so the shadows were made three-dimensional while the object was
in 2D. This could make quite an interesting story, being able
to see the images and follow my train of thoughts while working
on this assigment.

I have volunteered to edit this column and I think I have enough
material to go for a while and, of course, distinguished guests
like Boris are always welcome!

The only open question was the name of the column. I had proposed
"On Assignment" or "Assignment 3-D" but the second one is already
a regular column featuring pictures from members (but no real
story behind them). So we will need some other ideas here...

How about: "The rest of the story..." (stolen from Paul Harvey!)
or "Anatomy of a Stereo Picture", "Behind the Scenes"...

This column featuring the work of active stereo photographers
and offering ideas, inspiration and technical details, I think
would be a very nice addition to Stereo World. I for one would
love to hear Boris' story behind "The Kiss" and his other fine
images.
