I don't have a specific answer, but anyone considering fan
motors might want to look at digest 1782 - it has a "fan motor clinic".

Search on the keyword Peter;Penhallow (include the semicolon) at

http://calcite.rocky.edu/photo-3d

and select the 1500-2000 digest number range.
