P3D VM Reel delamination

I have a couple of vm reels which are delaminating and which I want to
rescue.

I looked in the archives and found one message from Wolfgang advising
use of Elmers Stixall for glue and suggesting completely separating the
two reel-halves first, then gluing the chips to one half followed by gluing
the reel-halves.

I plan to follow this advice but before I start does anyone have any
further suggestions? In particular, are there any suggestions for
ensuring the chips are correctly oriented (L/R and correct side of film)
during the process?
