P3D hyper MF shots

I'm wondering why the shots need to be in medium format, especially if
they will be manipulated in Photoshop. A pair of quality 35mm would
produce a sharper image than a cheapo MF cameras. Although I had a
Yashica D TLR which was very sharp and mint for $90. Also, why hyper?
How far back would he be? A close up of the band would be more dramatic
especially in anaglyph (IMHO), unless an overview of the suroundings is
wanted.
