I've met several times with the DP of this movie, Fernando Arribas, and he
has some curious recollections of the shooting. He joined the production
after it wrapped once and key members of the crew were replaced. They
started all over and decided to film it in 3-D using a primitive prototype
that was hand-helded into Spain by Bill Bukowsky (who knew almost nothing as
to how to properly operate the unit). The 3-D lens system had to undercover
significant modifications by DP Fernando Arribas and Camera rental company
"Camara Rent" in order to made it workable. As an example camera had to
operate upside-down as the mirrors used in the 3-D lenses had an incorrect
configuration. A number of scenes had to be reshot and the 3-D effects were
a hit and miss matter. However, according to Fernando (a true 3-D fan that
worked in a couple more of 3-D productions, one never finished) Comin' at
Ya! was such a poor movie because the makers never intended to make a good
flick (assuming they knew how to) much to his despair. However the movie is
actually very funny, has the most outrageous 3-D efx ever and did a lot of
money (curiously not in Spain, where it was briefly shown. Another spanish
3-D production by -almost- the same crew, "Treasure of the Four Crowns", did
much better here).
