Marcus wrote "my understanding of a .jps image is that at its
basic level it is simply a jpeg of a stereo pair in crosseyed format."

and he is right.

The crosseye format is best for direct viewing with no hardware.
Walleye has a limited frame size - nominally our interoccular distance.

If a person wanted to view that way. DepthCharge makes the conversion.
It also converts for colored glasses, interlaced, page flipping,
Surfer, Winspex and has many other features. It is a little more than
a meg and is a free download:

You can simply rename a RL jpeg file from *.jpg to *.jps to convert.
This allow one to view their shots as gray anaglyph, color anaglyph, or
whatever AND still preserve all of the image to view again an any other
format.

This is why I publish in the JPS format:

DepthCharge is a small free download. I can't understand why people
would object to the notion of a standard format for pair storage.
I would ask what other software even comes close? What other format
would be better than jps?
