Very apt questions. Unfortunately, the slides are not ready
to hand, but it is likely that the affected ones were not
processed by Kodak. The bulk of the collection are in
Kodak paper mounts with the date embossed, but some
are in red-bordered mounts lacking a date stamp.
I can appreciate how even a flurry of specks could be
made to disappear, but some of the damage I saw looked
irreparable, covering wide areas (not symmetrically on
both chips), seeming to obliterate a significant portion of
the image (no observable image details within the clear
green intrusions), from the borders of the mount inward
(these random, essentially clear, light blue-green frond-like
effusions). Also, in many cases, the shots are not worthy
of extreme efforts to restore. :-)
