In the USA the latter seems always to lead to the former!!! Never
underestimate the ability of advertisers to control the family mind.

At age 42, I have never had a driver's license or car, and have managed
reasonably well in most circumstances with feet and the greatest
technological accomplishment of man, the bicycle. But I sometimes have
had to prevail upon friends like Dave Williams to drive me to places like
Kansas City to attend stereo meetings with people like John Baird, because
a sensible thing like a Kansas commuter train from Topeka through Lawrence
to Kansas City (a long slide bar!) can't exist anymore in a society that
*worships* personal internal combustion point-to-point travel. Would like
a little electric Bruce Buggy to putt around and shoot pictures from,
though.

Ernie Rairdin, of APEC fame, and spouse put in a surprise appearance at
the KCMPA stereo meeting, as Mr. Baird reported. Shocked the heck out of
me when they walked in. Ernie later showed me the inside of their vehicle
which was full of stereo goodies, including the parts for many viewcards,
which he said he meant to assemble WHILE ON THE ROAD! (I assume while his
wife drives ;-) ) So commuter slide-mounting may not be so crazy an idea!
Maybe someone needs to devise a laptop mounting table for use on planes
and trains. You think I'm joking? Some long haul travellers I know could
mount enough to put Kodak out of the stereo business.

Have jig, will travel.
