Well Mark... these "much larger arenas" are waiting for you too...
Let me clarify something... About 65-100 people enter the International
Stereo exhibitions. Only a dozen or two (at most) are in photo-3d (not
hundreds!) Why do these people bother to do it? I cannot speak for
everyone, but, as you said, it is a good feeling to see your work
being appreciated. Also, the motivation... Get out and do better!
Take better pictures!
Your work and spirit and enthusiasm for stereo are a sign for me
that sooner or later you will be part of the same game... I remember
how I got started... In 1994-1995 I joined the Detroit club and had
a great year, winning first place in the accumulated score *and*
"slide of the year". I took my top 4 best slides (including the slide
of the year) and entered the Detroit International PSA Exhibition.
Result: ZERO acceptances! I was shocked!!! But I learned! I
attended the presentation of the accepted slides and saw some great
work in there. So I needed to try a bit harder.... That's what I
have been doing since then... Sometimes I manage to pull 4 acceptances
(and an award here and there) but some other times I get zero.
But, I keep trying to take better pictures... That's what counts.
I know that Bill Walton has been posting reminders for upcoming
Stereo Exhibitions in photo-3d. For those interested in joining
the fun, consider joining the list 3Dsalon@xxxxxxxxxxx (to subscribe
send email to subscribe-3dsalon@xxxxxxxxxxx). In this list you can
ask questions and get answers and reminders of upcoming exhibitions
and some "behind the scenes" discussion.
So, Mark... I am waiting to see you there. Your "Con-air" is a
sure acceptance. You know what they say... "The more, the
merrier"... even though more for you will mean less for me!!! :-)
For more info on PSA and the system of the International Stereo
Exhibitions, check past articles of the Stereogram (issue 3.9 in
particular).
