Another portion of the blame goes to the film manufacturers.  When films are 
marketed by names with no mention of speed (Polaroid "OneFilm" & Kodak "Max" 
come to mind) even sophisticated shooters can get fooled.  I know several 
serious shooters who were astonished to find out that Kodak's (original) 
"Max" is rated at ISO 800.  You may recall it was originally advertised as 
the film to shoot for everything from your sister's wedding to your ski trip 
to your black cat in the coal mine at night.

Education can cure these problems only when the student is willing and able 
to learn.  Unfortunately, far too many people seem to be incapable of either 
(or both at the same time).
