P3D Teco-Nimslo normal-closeup film advance

When you switch from normal shots using the outer lenses on the
Teco-Nimslo (or other modified Nimslos with half the normal film
advance) to doing closeups with an adjacent pair of lenses, it
is necessary to do extra advancing and waste a little film in
order to avoid exposing some frames twice. Is there some way
that allows the extra advances without tripping the shutter, or
is it necessary to cover all four lenses while the shutter is
tripped? This complication, however it works, is one thing that
has kept me from going to this modification. I never have to
worry about extra film advancing, etc.--I just take the regular
and closeup shots mixed as I please.

A description of the normal-closeup switch from users of modified
cameras would be appreciated--I'd like to make the modification
and save film and processing costs.
