Subject: P3D Re: RE: Scanning

Dennis asks about Realist slide scanning...

I have a Nikon 35mm scanner which accepts slides
and negatives, (via a long, thin carrier which holds a 5
frame strip).

Rotation is a problem for the Realist mount so I trimmed a
normal cardboard mount into which I slipped the end of a Realist
pair. I can get reasonable scans this way without rotation,
one "chip" at a time. The only problem is that the
trimmed cardboard mounts wear out quickly.

I've found that for my scanner, the best method is to
place the unmounted slides into the negative carrier and
proceed from there. I've also done the same with some
Kodacolor negatives which I shot with a Realist about 25
years ago. The software in the scanner reverses the
image and takes the red mask into account.

I'm sure that there are better ways, but this has worked for me.
