I would not use either of the built-in flashes as a light source.  The 
built-in flash in the Rebel is too close to the lens to avoid red-eye, and if 
you activate the red-eye protection, the camera will not fire at the precise 
instant you press the shutter.  Instead, leave both flashes in their down 
position, and use a Vivitar 283 or 285 with a remote sensor cord attached to 
the hot shoe of either camera.
