P3D medium format refuge?

A few days ago, I asked about re-subscribing to MF3D, the medium 
format list.  In response, Cliff Howard sent me a copy of an April 
P3D post from George Themelis which contained:

I can tell you Tom Deering's reasons.  The volume stays low, and we 
stay on topic.  No single person swamps the list with hundreds of 
messages, trying to play the big expert.  We are lucky to have some 
certified stereo geniuses, but it's all low key.  There are no harsh 
words, no egos, and no condescension. MF3D is not a contest.

Having said the above, why MF3D was kept a secret from George 
Themelis is anybody's guess.
