Indeed I used the HP scanner for a few months, although I didn't do MUCH
scanning. In fact, I'm selling mine on ebay, just put the ad up today:

It handles Realist-format slides well, you insert once end, so the scan,
and then repeat for the other end. That way you get both left and right
film chips in two seperate scans, put them together in PhotoPaint or
PhotoShop, and you're set. Resolution is 2400 dpi, and it beats any
other scanner in the price range.

I replaced it with an AcerScan 620ST, which is also a SCSI scanner, but
a flat-bed type. It's not as handy as the PhotoSmart at Realist slides,
but it does up to a 5x7 transparancy, and up to 8x10 reflective. It's a
good choice if you do any medium-format stereo work like I do. I have a
pair of Graflex 22 TLR's twinned on a slide bar and shoot 120
transparancy film with beautiful results. Well, anyway, I digress. The
bottom line is, in my opinion, that the HP PhotoSmart scanner is the
best choice in the price range for 35mm, and the AcerScan 620ST is best
for medium or large-format. Now I just need to twin my two Speed
Graphics for 4x5" stereo pairs... but then I suppose that's a bit silly!

Thanks.

Steven
