P3D Stereo Intuition

>>My advice is to understand the physical principles involved here,
>>derive some of these formulas for yourself, experiment & develop
>>an intuition which, at the end, will be more valuable than any
>>calculator.

I just photographed a new acquisition (Celestite on Sulfur, and 3 inch
Barite specimens- if anyone is interested) I used my tried and true Nudge
Rule. I would guess that 50% of my images of specimens are made by sliding
the camera across the tripod head. If it is a small specimen, I just nudge
it a tad. If it is bigger, I nudge it a tad more. This has always worked
for me, and worked well. I am sure I have violated some of the rules for
determining and setting interoccular, but I would guess most viewers - 99%
perhaps, would not be able to tell if my interoccular is correct or not.

I say, take pictures and have fun. Do not worry about rules, they might not
be as important as one might think. Dr. T is right. As you do more and
more, you will develop intuition.

Cheers and Regards,
