P3D V-M lighted viewer

The lighted viewer produced a number of years ago by Tyco in China is
currently being remaindered in Big Lots and Odd Lots stores for $3.99.
This viewer is optically and mechanically quite satisfactory. It has an
internal illumination system that doesn't work very well. I'm wondering
if anyone has tried to modify it for halogen bulbs. Is a Themelization
available??
