P3D RE: P3D FED film advance fix?
Mark Shields writes regarding the film advance problem with his FED
whereby... "the rapid wind lever goes through its motions without
actually moving the film. ... even if it catches the next time
around (and it is sometimes in mid-stroke), the result is overlapping
frames."
This sounds just like my first FED. A partial solution for mine was to
let the wind-on lever return with a 'flick' (rather than easing it back
as I did at first), which I assume gives the mechanism a little shock
so that the ratchet engages. Anyway, when I do this, the wind-on
failure reduces to less than one miss per film rather than 20 or so!.
I would be interested in hearing about a better solution.
Mark: "It sometimes also exhibits the
symptom I've often heard of quitting advance entirely toward
the end of the roll, when the sound of sprocket teeth tearing
past perforations is heard."
Is this really tearing perforations, or could it be the ratchet
slipping?
(look at the developed film to tell?) - mine has never done this (yet).
Hopefully it might be one problem rather than two!
Cheers
Jeremy
