Glad to see Steve Carter's review of the DVD anaglyph of "The Bubble." I
have been very curious to see how anaglyph will work out in this new
format; I've only seen store demos of flatties so far. I can't judge
yet why the anaglyph is uneven--I'm still educating myself about how DVD
works. I have some reservations about MPEG and anaglyph, at least at
high compression... But obviously there are many ways to break even a
good system.

Steve, were you watching this on your TV, or a computer monitor? I
especially want to compare the anaglyph in these two ways.

Steve continues:
>I tend to think that short subjects would be better than features on
anaglyph DVD. It took me two sittings to get through it.<

Most people, adults especially, find it hard to wear anaglyph glasses
for long periods. I remember John Rupkalvis describing how, after a day
of anaglyph video conversions at 3D Video Corp, he could take off his
glasses and "free-view" 3D comics in pseudostereo! Fortunately, this
color cast wears off pretty quickly, or the gov't would outlaw
anaglyphs.
Anyway, most of us will have to create our own "commercial breaks" to
get through even the good ones.

Finally, Steve said:
>The movie isn't exactly riveting, although it's not terrible.<

This movie has a few really great stereo effects, but overall it's
really cheesy and boring, IMHO. It has about 20 minutes of material
stretched out to feature length. Try to see it polarized in a theater
someday. (This is also known as "The Fantastic Invasion of Planet
Earth."
