I also reccommend the Freeviewer's Assistant" highly. It's a great
little doohicky with a design inspired by the Pocket Stereoscope and
similar devices you can see described in Paul Wing's book.

I use it for any side-by-sides on the computer as you can use if for
parallel of cross-eyed pairs and you're not magnifying screen pixels the
way lorgnettes do - I can't freeview cross-eyed and some of those pairs
are really big anyway.

One drawback with the Freeviewer's Assitant is that there's a bit of a
trick to learning how to use the blasted thing. It seems to be
something that folks already familiar with stereophotography and the
like can get a handle on with practice but when you hand it to a novice
they just can't use it. At least that has been my experience.

However, I am glad I have one.

I have never used the side by side View Magic but like my up and down
one a lot. I use a twin rig of Ricoh 35-R cameras which have a bit too
much lens seperation (especially considering all the portraits I prefer
to do) and I just take the prints from the photoshop as is and put them
in those plastic keepsake folders the photoshop will throw at you with
your prints and even though they're not "mounted" correctly - such as
using that handy little transparent mounting guide - the eyes adjust
quickly and I can preview which prints I want to mount on cards easily
and quickly. View Magic works well with novices too. Another high
reccommendation, but for more wide and audience and more specific a
setup.

BTW, the Freeviewer's Assistant can also do up and down pairs but it's a
pain in the patoot to get it to work (at least for my clumsy hands and
lazy brain).

All the best,
