P3D Stereo vergence?

The discussion, "Too Much Depth" got me thinking
about stereoscopic vision and vergence depth
cues. Stereoscopic vision requires two eyes and
depends on retinal disparities. Now isn't vergence
a "form" of stereo vision (albeit not processing 
binocular visual information), since we require
"two" eyes (or don't we) to converge the eyes?
