Well Mark, with all due respect, I bet if someone had asked you
for the future of personal computers 12 years ago you could not
have dreamed of what would follow.  How does that fit your
consumer outline above?  Personal computers are not simple and
you do not get results out of the box.

The big attraction for digital cameras is that for the first
time after a long time the consumer will have control over how
the printed pictures look.  I don't know if my 75 year old
father or Aunt Helen will get one, but most young (in their 40s
:-)) people I know, with interest in photography, are looking
into them right now.  At work we have stopped using film. 
Everything is digital.  This is the way of the future, you like
it or not.  It is only a matter of time and time flies.

PS. How long will it take you to get a personal computer?  
    I think your mother has one, right?
